LOS ANGELES, CA – June 24, 2016- Leech Tishman partner, patent authority and treatise author Jeffrey G. Sheldon will be leading an interactive course on behalf of Practising Law Institute, entitled, “Patent Law Practice: Learn to be a Successful Patent Practitioner 2016.” This 10-week, highly interactive course will run from September 5 to November 14, 2016.
About This Seminar
Through a combination of live webinars, pre-recorded lectures, reading and written assignments, the course will benefit people desiring to become patent practitioners as well as patent attorneys and agents wanting to improve their skills. The course will emphasize real-world, hands-on practice which includes conducting a live interview with an inventor. Participants can expect a time commitment of 2-3 hours each week. This includes a 30-minute or more lecture you can watch on-demand anytime, a “homework” assignment, and a weekly live interactive review of student assignments in which Sheldon will give tips and expert advice. The course materials feature many chapters of Sheldon’s PLI treatise, How to Write a Patent Application, Third Edition.
Participants in the course will learn how to:
* Interview an inventor and obtain a patentability study
* Conduct a patentability search/evaluate search results
* Draft claims
* Order drawings and write a patent application
* Draft provisional, design, and information disclosure statements
* Examine restriction requirements and respond to First Office actions
* Respond to final rejections
* Examine infringement and validity opinions
* Conduct a foreign filing
* Evaluate post issuance options including inter partes review

About the Speaker
Jeff Sheldon chairs Leech Tishman’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. Sheldon holds a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and has been recognized by California Lawyer as one of the 20 best intellectual property lawyers in the state. Prior to joining Leech Tishman, he was a partner at Sheldon Mak & Anderson, a California-based full-service intellectual property law firm.
Sheldon regularly lectures on intellectual property law.
