Leech Tishman Partner Richard S. Scott Named as Pittsburgh Planned Giving Council’s 2011 Allied Professional of the Year
PITTSBURGH, PA – Leech Tishman is pleased to announce that firm partner Richard (Dick) S. Scott has been recognized by the Pittsburgh Planned Giving Council (“PPGC”) as their 2011 Allied Professional of the Year. Dick is a partner at Leech Tishman and a member of the firm’s Estates & Trusts Practice Group.
Each year, the PPGC honors a professional from the tri-state area who is deserving of recognition for their efforts to promote philanthropy both professionally and by personal example. Allied professions include attorneys, stock brokers, insurance and real estate professionals, certified public accountants and certified financial planners. Dick was recognized with this honor at the PPGC’s 2012 Emerging Philanthropy Conference Luncheon, held on April 26, 2012 at Hilton Garden Inn Southpointe in Canonsburg, PA.
Dick Scott, of Shaler Township in Allegheny County, has been a leader in estates and trusts work in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania for more than four decades. Dick was instrumental in the establishment of special needs trusts and assisting countless clients to include charitable giving in their estate planning strategies.
Dick fought for the right of individuals with disabilities to be able to receive inheritances and gifts without losing their government benefits. Through Dick’s legal and advocacy work, special needs trusts are now commonly used to provide for beneficiaries with disabilities. He was the founding chairperson of the ACHIEVA Family Trust. The ACHIEVA Family Trust now has $55 million in assets under management and disperses nearly $6 million annually to over 1800 beneficiaries with disabilities.
Dick’s efforts helped in the establishment of ACHIEVA’s endowment and planned giving program. He currently sits on the board of the ACHIEVA Family Trust and its parent agency, ACHIEVA. Dick is a past board member of the Estate Planning Council of Pittsburgh. Additionally, he has been involved with the Arc of the US, the Arc of PA, Easter Seals and was a founding member of the ARC US Foundation.
Dick is a member of the Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar Associations, and is a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Peer Review Rated Attorney. A cum laude graduate of Princeton University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Dick has two adult sons, Josh and Matt.
“It is an honor to serve the community by working to facilitate estate planning and establishing trusts for disabled individuals and families in the region,” said Dick Scott. “It has been an absolute privilege to be able to use my knowledge in estate planning and administration in order to benefit some of Pittsburgh’s outstanding non-profit organizations and the people that they serve.”
The Pittsburgh Planned Giving Council provides educational and networking resources to gift planning and allied professionals to promote charitable estate planning. The PPGC is affiliated with the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning and ascribes to its Code of Ethics.
