PITTSBURGH, PA – On November 17 and 18, 2016, Leech Tishman Partners Sally Griffith Cimini, Christopher S. Channel, and Lisa M. Schonbeck participated in the 20th annual Employment Law Institute West. The Institute is a two-day, premier employment law event in Western Pennsylvania and is organized every year by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute (“PBI”), the Continuing Legal Education branch of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. This year’s event featured nine distinguished judges from Western Pennsylvania who offered tips and strategies, and more than 35 sessions, including four ethics sessions.
Partner Sally Griffith Cimini was a member of the Institute Planning Team, and has been on the course planning committee for several years. At Leech Tishman, Sally is the Chair of both the Employment and ADR Practice Groups. She counsels, represents and litigates on behalf of employers in all aspects of the employment relationship.
Chris Channel spoke on a panel with Judge Christine Ward and attorney Jill Weimer of Littler Mendelson about restrictive covenant cases, including best practices, how to present your best case and best defense in injunction matters, and an update on the most recent developments in the area of unfair competition and restrictive covenants.
Lisa Schonbeck presented with Nikki Lykos of Johnston Lykos on the topic of joint employment under various federal employment laws. Following the U.S. Department of Labor and the NLRB’s recently-issued guidance regarding joint and single employer liability, the discussion included the current legal landscape regarding joint and single employer liability, practical considerations for employers, and implications for employees who believe they are employed by more than one legal entity.
The Employment Law Institute West is the premier employment law event in Western Pennsylvania. That reputation is built on 20 years of outstanding thought-provoking sessions, educating hundreds of employment lawyers and human resource professionals. The Institute has a proven track record of teaching practical and realistic solutions to everyday and unexpected problems in employment law. Beyond providing updates and breakdowns of critical information, our presenters take it one step further by addressing the real implications of why these changes matter for you and the clients you represent.
