Leech Tishman Plans Fundraising Activities to Support Susan G. Komen Foundation Mammogram Voucher Program

Firm Employees to Support Breast Cancer Initiative Serving Western/Central Pennsylvania in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

PITTSBURGH, PAIn honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Leech Tishman has planned several fundraising initiatives throughout the month of October. Leading the fundraising campaign is Leech Tishman partner Sally Griffith Cimini, chair of the firm’s Employment Practice Group. Sally was recently diagnosed with and successfully treated for breast cancer, which was detected early through a routine mammogram. All money raised during this campaign will be directed toward the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Mammogram Voucher Program.

The Mammogram Voucher Program provides mammograms and follow-up diagnostic services to uninsured and underinsured women and men in 34 counties in western and central Pennsylvania. Early detection gives a woman her best chance of surviving breast cancer. Yearly mammograms are key to finding cancer in its earliest stages. This program covers screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, breast sonograms, clinical examination of the breast, needle aspirations and biopsies, and surgical consultation.

Leech Tishman is hosting a four-part fundraising campaign, including:

Save the Girls!

Staff members have been challenged to gather the loose change in their desks drawers, purses and pockets and deposit them in a jug located in the firm’s lunch room, with the hope that the accumulated change will add up to a lifesaving mammogram.

Baskets to Fight Breast Cancer

The firm’s employees were asked to consider creating a gift basket (or contributing items for a gift basket) to be raffled off at an October 24 Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon. Many terrific baskets have already been contributed to the cause.

Jeans Day

On Friday, October 24, the firm will sponsor a jeans day to benefit the voucher program. All staff members wearing jeans that day will be asked to contribute $5 to benefit this program.

Breast Cancer Awareness Lunch

As mentioned earlier, a Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon will take place on October 24, hosted by Sally Cimini. Tickets for the lunch, which will include food, games, prizes, and a gift basket raffle, will be sold for $10/each.

“My experience with breast cancer earlier this year was completely unexpected,” stated Sally. “I have no family history of breast cancer and wasn’t in a high risk category of those who have an increased incidence of being diagnosed with breast cancer. I’m incredibly thankful that my breast cancer was detected early through a routine mammogram, and that as a result, I had a successful outcome. I have become a steadfast supporter of early detection tools and encourage all of my friends and family to take advantage of routine mammograms. I’m so touched that my colleagues have pulled out all the stops to support such a worthy cause. We are grateful to have the opportunity to support the Mammogram Voucher Program and to help provide routine mammograms to individuals who may have otherwise not been able to afford them.”
