Pittsburgh’s progression over the past 10 years into a tech startup hub has been non-linear, but significant, as indicated by Pittsburgh Tech Council President and CEO, Audrey Russo, in her recent article, “10 Years After: A perspective on Pittsburgh’s Tech Evolution.” Published in PGH TechFuse, the article adds that currently, one-third of the region’s payroll is comprised of tech and innovation jobs, representing a growth of nearly 13% since 2007. Russo attributes this growth in part to an influx of venture capital (both local and non-local), accelerators and co-working spaces, increased social infrastructure, and foreign-born people who have neutralized an otherwise declining population.
