Leech Tishman Bankruptcy Partners to Present Webinar on Recent Amendments to the Bankruptcy Code
Leech Tishman Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights Practice Group Partners Sandford L. Frey and Crystal H. Thornton-Illar will be presenting a webinar through Celesq., Inc. entitled, “Recent Amendments to the Bankruptcy Code: What You Need to Know.”
On August 23, 2019, President Donald J. Trump signed four new bankruptcy amendments into law: (1) the Small Business Reorganization Act of 2019 (the “SBRA”); (2) the Family Farmer Relief Act of 2019; (3) the Honoring American Veterans in Extreme Need Act of 2019; and (4) the National Guard and Reservists Debt Relief Extension Act of 2019. During this course, we will discuss the changes each amendment makes and explore how these amendments will impact the current bankruptcy practice. We will have a special focus on the SBRA, which is the most extensive reform of the Bankruptcy Code since the enactment of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005. The SBRA creates a new subchapter V of Chapter 11 designed specifically for small businesses. We will provide an in-depth look at the new subchapter V and explain how a small business filings will likely work under this new subchapter, which becomes effective in February 2020.
