Ever wonder, “why didn’t anyone tell me this?” Are there things you wish you could ask but are afraid of being labeled the newbie?  During this seminar, the presenters will examine issues labor and HR professionals should know to ease the transition and make them seasoned labor professionals. Among other key topics, they will discuss important steps to take when receiving a grievance, a checklist for a disciplinary meeting and preparation tools for negotiations.

Common Sense Communications- How to Avoid Legal Entanglements

While most public employees are more “electronically” connected than ever, training supervisors “how” to speak with one another in the workplace, and when and what to document, continues to challenge ever the most mature public employers. In terms of people being directed, many grievances, mediations, arbitrations and litigation could be avoided by training supervisors “how” to engage with their workers, “where” to provide direction, “what” to do when challenged, and “when” to follow up, and “what” to document (or avoid documenting). Likewise, “how”, “what” and “when” managers communicate with each other often can be the decisive point when an labor practice or imposed discipline is challenged. This workshop with give a simple set of tools that can be replicated in the workplace and avoid the legal entanglements when “that’s not what I meant…” becomes the key issue.
