PELRAC’S 9th Annual Training Conference

On Wednesday, October 10, Leech Tishman’s West Coast Business & Employment Client Relations Partner Philip A. Toomey will be presenting on Grievance & Arbitration, as well as Marijuana in the Workplace at PELRAC’S 9th Annual Training Conference. The Training conference will be held from October 10-12 in Anaheim, California.
Session 1
Wednesday, Oct. 10 | 10:15am – 11:45am PST
Phil will be presenting, “Five Essential Matters for Any Grievance or Arbitration.” Attendees will obtain an understanding of what is properly “grievable,” how to select a hearing officer, who has the burden of proof, what to prepare for hearing, and how to present.
Session 2
Wednesday, Oct. 10 | 1:30pm – 2:45pm PST
Phil will present, “Marijuana in the Workplace- Medicinal Accommodation, Pernicious Behavior, or Active Misconduct? You Decide.” The presentation will cover marijuana laws in the U.S. Many voters and legislatures (and some municipalities, as well) have adopted laws that purport to “legalize” the use, possession, cultivation and sale of marijuana. This presentation will provide a general overview of the state of the law when concerning marijuana, and the impact of the confused nature of federal versus state law. The presentation will also cover drug-free workplace policies, permissible drug testing, reasonable accommodation for disability, and privacy issues impacting public employees in the workplace.
