The Case for Adjusting Your Perspective – Identifying and Combating Implicit Bias in the Practice of Law

Leech Tishman Immigration and Family Law attorney Sharon Barney will be a panelist for this 1-hour interactive course focusing on identifying and combating implicit bias in the practice of law. During this course, which also offers 1 hour of ethics CLE credit, the Bar Leadership Institute Class of 2017-18 will define implicit bias and identify types of implicit bias that impact attorneys in the practice of law, including interactions with clients, other attorneys and the court. Attendees will learn how to mitigate the impact of implicit bias through vignettes and explore how the Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct and Code of Civility provide guidance in such situations.
This course is being offered as part of the 3-day Young Lawyers Summer Summit, hosted by the PA Bar Association Young Lawyers Division.

About the Young Lawyer Summer Summit
The 2018 Young Lawyer Summer Summit will be held July 18-20 in State College, PA, at The Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. The summit is the annual premier legal conference planned for young lawyers by young lawyers. It offers attendees the unique opportunity to interact with federal and state judges, network with PBA leaders and senior members of the profession, as well as have fun with young lawyers from across the commonwealth. This year, the Young Lawyer Summer Summit will offer interesting and affordable CLEs. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about ways to can get involved in the PBA. Additionally, the summit offers some exciting social opportunities for networking with fellow young lawyers in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.
