LOS ANGELES, CA – June 24, 2021 – Leech Tishman is pleased to announce that Partner Ivan Posey has been admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (Federal Circuit). The Federal Circuit is a United States Court of Appeals headquartered in Washington, D.C. The court was created by Congress with passage of the Federal Courts Improvement Act of 1982, which merged the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals and the appellate division of the United States Court of Claims. The Federal Circuit is particularly known for its decisions on patent law, as it is the only appellate-level court other than the Supreme Court with the jurisdiction to hear patent case appeals.
Ivan Posey is based in the LAX/El Segundo, CA office is a member of the Intellectual Property Practice Group. He focuses his practice on patents, trademark and copyrights, litigation, and business and commercial contracts and licensing. Posey regularly litigates intellectual property and general civil matters. He has first-chair trial experience before the International Trade Commission (ITC), federal district courts, and state courts. Posey also provides clients with extensive intellectual property counseling, including drafting opinions regarding patent infringement and contract rights, negotiating technology licensing, and managing intellectual property portfolios. Posey has a wealth of experience in patent drafting and procurement services to clients, including patents in technical fields such as software, electronics, wireless communications, optics, networks, automotive, furniture, Internet, e-commerce, and business methods. He also regularly advises clients on trademark issues, including trademark procurement services and infringement analysis. Posey has extensive experience prosecuting and defending Trademark Trial and Appeal Board opposition and cancellation proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
