EL SEGUNDO, CA – March 9, 2023 – Leech Tishman is pleased to announce that National Employment & Labor Chair Philip A. Toomey recently participated in the “One Voice Against Cancer Grassroots Hill Day” in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, March 7, 2023.
Phil joined members of the coalition One Voice Against Cancer (OVAC), who participated in OVAC’s annual lobby day in the nation’s capital to address federal funding for cancer research. Together the group addressed Senator Alex Padilla (CA), Senator Dianne Feinstein (CA), Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA, 43rd District), Congressman Ted Lieu (CA, 36th District), and Congressman Pete Aguilar (CA, 31st District; Minority Chair, House Appropriations Committee).
Each year, OVAC volunteers travel to Washington, D.C. for training on legislative issues and advocacy methods, followed by a full-day meeting with members of Congress and their staff about the importance of federal funding in the fight against cancer. This advocacy work and the personal stories of volunteers underscores the need for continued government involvement in cancer research and treatment studies.
