Leech Tishman Partner Steven Irwin Appointed to the U.S. Commission On Civil Rights Advisory Committee for Pennsylvania

Posted on December 20, 2016

PITTSBURGH, PA – Leech Tishman is pleased to announce that firm partner Steven D. Irwin has been appointed to serve on the U.S. Civil Rights Commission’s Advisory Committee for Pennsylvania for a four-year, unremunerated term.

The Commission appointed Advisory Committee Members for Arkansas, Iowa, Ohio and Pennsylvania.  Congressional mandate establishes Advisory Committees in all 50 States and the District of Columbia.  For information, please see the Commission’s press release, here.

In his role as an Advisory Committee Member, Steve will conduct reviews and produce reports and recommendations concerning local civil rights issues, including criminal justice, voting, discrimination, housing, education and other important themes.

“It is a critical time to serve in this capacity,” said Steve.  “I hope to bring my personal, civil and legal experience fostering diversity and equal opportunity to support the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.”

At Leech Tishman, Steve chairs the firm’s Government Relations Practice Group.  For more than a decade, he served on Leech Tishman’s management committee and led the firm’s employment group.  Steve’s emphasis is on business matters, where he routinely interacts with government bodies and counsels high-level management, defending against or asserting allegations of fraudulent conduct.  He continues to counsel clients on all legal aspects of the employment relationship and labor compliance.

Since serving as president-elect of the North American Securities Administrators Association, where he chaired its Federal Legislation Committee, co-chaired the Enforcement Section and was a member of the Dodd-Frank Working Group, Steve has focused on matters in the financial services sector.  Steve is currently an independent director of the third business development fund of Franklin Square Investments.
