Leech Tishman to Co-Sponsor “A Korea-Pittsburgh Evening”
Pittsburgh Firm to Sponsor an Informative Discussion and Reception Regarding the Bilateral Benefits of the United States-Korea Free Trade Agreement
PITTSBURGH, PA – Leech Tishman and StarKist Co. will be co-sponsoring an event entitled “A Korea – Pittsburgh Evening” on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at the Renaissance Hotel Pittsburgh. Featuring a discussion of the bilateral benefits of the United States-Korea Free Trade Agreement, the event will include participation from Mr. Franco Harris, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Pittsburgh, Ambassador Young-mok Kim, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in New York, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and prominent Korean companies in New York.
The United States-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA) was passed by the U.S. Senate and House on October 12, 2011 and signed into law by President Obama on October 21, 2011. The National Assembly of South Korea ratified it on November 22, 2011 and President Lee Myung-bak is to sign it into law on November 29, 2011. The KORUS FTA is the largest trade deal for the United States since the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement, and will potentially serve as a model for new trade agreements with other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. It also represents the continuing and strengthening relationship between the U.S. and the Republic of Korea.
Presentations during “A Korea – Pittsburgh Evening” will include “Benefits of the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement,” “Investment Opportunities in Korea,” and “The Trade and Investment Environment in Pennsylvania.” Senior representatives of the U.S. offices of Korean companies such as Samsung, Hyundai, LG and Korea Engineering will be in attendance. One goal of the event is to discuss the manufacturing, technology and other capabilities of Western Pennsylvania in order to help Korean companies identify local areas where they can locate facilities, area companies that can provide goods and services to Korean companies and companies that can support Korean development of business here.
